Illinois Amends Child Labor Law and Whistleblower Act
August 3, 2010 - The Illinois
Child Labor Law has been amended to provide that instances
where a minor from a different state attempts to obtain an
Illinois employment certificate, the Department of
Labor must work with a City or Regional Superintendent of Schools,
or the State Superintendent of Education, or his or her duly
authorized agents, to issue the certificate. The Superintendent may
waive the requirement that a minor submit the application in person
if the minor lives in another state.
This new law took effect on July 23, 2010. The
Illinois Minimum Wage labor law
poster may be affected as a result.
The Illinois Whistleblower Act was amended to
expand the definition of a covered employee. As of January 1, 2011,
a licensed physician who practices his or her profession, in whole
or in part, at a hospital, nursing home, clinic or any medical
facility that is a healthcare facility funded by the state.
Currently, the Act defines a covered employee as "an individual who
is employed on a full-time, part-time or contractual basis by an
employer."
This change is not expected to affect any Illinois labor
law posters.
